As a young person, he struggled for clarity from the numerous inputs he witnessed around him, most of them conflicting and confusing. A respected friend once told him that if he wanted a deeper faith, he needed to seek it, and he would find it. His love for Jesus guided him to overcome the learning challenges of dyslexia. He eventually became a chaplain’s assistant in the Army and went to Bible college. He has spent most of his adult life serving the Lord, helping others answer tough questions such as how do I get right with God, how do I stay right with God, and am I worth anything to anyone, including God? Perhaps he can rest in his retirement with the words of Matthew, “His master said to him, ‘Well done good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter in the joy of your master’” (Matt 25:23).
As you can see, answers to our faith questions come from many places. Sometimes we find answers directly from God’s Word in the Bible. Other times an answer comes through prayer and listening to the Holy Spirit. Often, an answer comes from an unexpected place, such as a book we read or a conversation we have with a fellow believer. God speaks to us in many ways, often quite clearly when we stop and listen. When questions or struggles come, remember to lean on Jesus’s teaching and His promise that “I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Mt 28:20). And when you find answers to your questions, share them with others so that you may help them grow as well.
Be blessed and remember to stay focused on the reason for the season!
